Therapy
Therapy is a contemplative process of self-discovery and understanding with the goal of reducing emotional suffering, identifying and changing unconscious behavioral patterns, building resiliency in coping with life stressors and adverse life experiences, promoting overall wellness and greater life joy and developing awareness in relationships that leads to more genuine and fulfilling connections. Therapy is an interactive experience which occurs within the context of a safe, nonjudgmental and accepting space. You or your child can expect to be treated with unconditional positive regard while also being gently challenged to move beyond your comfort zone so change can occur. The process of therapy involves a deeper exploration of unconscious influences, past experiences, negative self beliefs and ingrained thinking and behavioral patterns. While also teaching practical and effective coping strategies to decrease stress, anxiety, depression and other emotional distress. While individual therapy is effective with individuals of all ages it is not a one size fits all model. Therapy begins with an initial session to discuss concerns and gather relevant information in order to develop a collaborative treatment plan that builds upon strengths and focuses on intervention strategies tailored to you or your child’s unique therapeutic goals.
Online Therapy
Online therapy offers a convenient option to engage in individual therapy in a location that feels comfortable to you and that fits within your schedule. Busy professionals enjoy the flexibility of attending sessions without leaving the office. Moms and dads like the ease of attending sessions from home without the need to find childcare. Spending time every week that is dedicated to your emotional well-being is essential, not selfish and it doesn’t need to create a scheduling burden. Sessions are offered over a secure computer based connection (similar to Skype). Please see the FAQ section for more specific information regarding fees and limitations.
Coaching
If you are confused by the difference between therapy and coaching you are not alone. Both involve developing a positive, healing relationship with a client, understanding behavior and setting goals in order to facilitate change. There are, however, important differences. Therapy involves exploring both the past and the present, alleviating problematic behaviors and emotional distress, and developing more effective coping strategies. Therapy is generally covered by insurance as long as there is an identified mental health diagnosis. Coaching on the other hand does not involve a mental health diagnosis and is not covered by insurance. Coaching focuses on the present and the future, on exploring, understanding and changing thoughts and behaviors that may be holding an individual back from achieving their full potential. Essentially it helps mentally well people to function at an even higher level.
Coaching does not require specific licensing or certification to work with clients. This means many individuals you see advertising coaching services may not have advanced degrees or training. Seeing a Licensed Psychologist for coaching means you benefit from my extensive training in human psychology and behavior in a nonjudgmental, supportive, professional and confidential setting. Because coaching services are not covered by insurance it is possible to also conduct coaching sessions over a secure online service from the comfort of your own home or office. Please see FAQ section for more specific information on fees.
